From Provenance Catalogue: Great-grandson of David Gregory of Kinnardie, Innes obtained his M.A. in 1732 and became Professor of Philosophy at Marischal College in 1739. He died in 1742. See Rait, Robert Sangster: The universities of Aberdeen. Aberdeen, 1895.
