A collection of works by the prolific writer and artist, Peter Frederick Anson (1889-1975). Born Frederick Charles Anson into a family with strong connections to the Church of England, he converted to Roman Catholicism while a member of the Anglican Benedictine community on Caldy Island, Pembrokeshire (1910-13). He adopted the name Peter when received into the third order of the Franciscans in Italy in 1924. During his long and itinerant life, Anson spent many years in the North East of Scotland at Macduff (1938-52). He died in Edinburgh and was buried at Nunraw, East Lothian. Anson’s works relate to three principal pre-occupations: the Roman Catholic Church in the UK and abroad, architecture, and aspects of fishing. The collection, primarily of first editions, includes a number of signed copies.
