AGA was launched in May 1998

Initiated by Professor Andrew Hurst, the Aberdeen Geological Alumni Association was set up to preserve and promote the geological tradition at Aberdeen University.

 

 

 

 

Mission Statement


 

Providing a focus of peer-group support in order to preserve and promote the tradition of geoscience excellence at Aberdeen University.


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Goals


 

The stated goals of the Association are:-

1.

To facilitate rapport through newsletters and social events between under-graduates, graduates and friends of Aberdeen University Department of Geology.

2.

To provide opportunity for undergraduates to meet and benefit from the experience of graduates and friends of Aberdeen University.

3.

To promote goodwill links between Aberdeen University Department of Geology and industry, government and other universities through graduate contacts.

4.

To maintain/consolidate bonding with the alumni through social and academic activities.

5.

To raise money to help offset the cost of undergraduate fieldwork.



 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Achievements

During the past year the Association has :

1.

Held at least 4 social events - Winetasting, Ceilidh, QuizNight, Stonehaven Boat Trip.

2.

Sponsored hand lenses and compass clinometers for 2nd and 3rd year students.

3.

Provided fieldwork and class prizes.
