The Capability Procedure is still the subject of much discussion between Aberdeen UCU officers and the University. We initially saw the procedure as a positive step as it promised to deliver support to staff who were, for whatever reason, struggling to meet the requirements of their role. Unfortunately, we have had reports of a number of instances where is has been used punitively and triggered by issues that are not really anything to do with capability (eg non-inclusion in the REF). We continue to raise this at our regular meetings with the University, and are supporting members who are affected.
