Biography
Dr Ambreen Shakil has extensive experience of teaching Clinical Skills and has worked in the UK, Caribbean and Pakistan. Dr Shakil is a Senior Fellow of the Advance Higher Education and works at the Institute of Education in Healthcare Medical Science.
Dr Shakil graduated from Dow University of Health Sciences and obtained her Masters in Health Services and Public Health Research with commendation from the University of Aberdeen. She also completed Masters in Medical Education (with commendation) from the University of Aberdeen.

Research Overview
Dr Shakil’s pedagogical research interests include feedback in learning environments, self-regulated learning strategies and faculty development.
Some of the examples of the research projects she has conducted are given below:
- A research project based on determining the ways of ensuring if video recorded consultation is positive formative experience for students’ learning and to identify the effects of self-reflection form and expert feedback on the self-regulated learning (SRL) of the students. The report of this project helped to improve the video recorded consultation experience of third year medical students
- A project related to learning standards for medical students in women’s and children’s health internationally. The project involved developing, piloting and administrating the questionnaire to be used for assessing the current learning and demands of students about women’s and children’s health at medical schools globally. The project also explored the opportunities of interdisciplinary learning. A report was submitted to WHO partnership. The report of this project was also published in a peer-reviewed journal (doi:http://dx.doi.org/10.3402/gha.v7.23943)
- Systematic review on Patient reported outcome measures and its implementation as a learning tool for use in clinical practice
