The University of Naples Federico II is believed to be one of the oldest public universities in the world and was founded by the King of Italy.

The university is made up of four schools, twenty-six departments, an academic staff of more than 3,000 individuals and an administrative staff of more than 4,500. Approximately 100,000 students are enrolled.

Naples is the regional capital of Campania and the third-largest municipality in Italy after Rome and Milan. In 2017, around 967,069 people lived within the city’s administrative limits while its province-level municipality has a population of 3,115,320 residents. Its continuously built-up metropolitan area is one of the largest metropolitan areas in Italy and is considered to be one of the most densely populated cities in Europe.
