The Accommodation Office

Our Accommodation Office are here to help you find a suitable place to live and our experienced staff know how important it is to help you with the formalities involved.

Aberdeen is unusual for a big-city university in having a lot of student accommodation within walking distance of its main teaching site. There is a choice of University-managed halls and privately-owned and managed halls, all situated within easy walking distance of the campus.

Information regarding applying for accommodation will be sent to all students who firmly accept an offer of a place. The University-managed accommodation houses approximately 3,000 students. If you are a new student, we guarantee to find you a place in our portfolio of accommodation, either University owned or with one of our preferred partners, provided your application reaches us by the deadline. The University does not have family accommodation, but we can provide a list of local Solicitors & Estate Agents who may be able to assist you in acquiring suitable accommodation. Alternatively, the Students' Association advertises private accommodation and further information can be obtained at http://www.ausa.org.uk/.

Halls of Residence

The Halls of Residence are a mixture of individual rooms within houses or flats, available on a catered and self-catered basis. All University halls of residence have full wireless (WI-FI) internet access.

Crombie-Johnston Halls, at the heart of the campus, accommodates approximately 400 first-year students in single study-bedrooms, on a catered/meals provided basis, with facilities for disabled students.

Elphinstone Road flats are also on campus, only a few minutes walk from the Sir Duncan Rice Library. Elphinstone Road consists of 120 single study bedrooms, organised into flats for 3 - 7 residents with shared kitchen and other facilities per flat. This residence is usually reserved for postgraduate/mature students.

All the accommodation at Hillhead is self-catered with a mix of standard and en-suite rooms on offer, in addition there are a small number of adapted rooms for students with a disability. Student facilities include a shop, social space, community centre, pay to use laundrettes and all weather tennis courts. There is a frequent bus service to the city centre.

Similar to Elphinstone Road flats, North Court has a designated postgraduate block.

New Accommodation

The University's accommodation strategy continues to raise the quality of student accommodation to a standard which will seriously compete with accommodation at any other British institution. The first phase of the project comprised of a new four-storey development with 520 ensuite bedrooms and a refurbishment of 480 existing bedrooms with shared bathrooms. Now that this phase is complete, the University plans to refurbish the remaining accommodation throughout the Campus.

Other Accommodation

Students who do not want to stay in Halls of Residence can choose from a wide range of alternative accommodation throughout the city. There are lodgings available in all parts of Aberdeen and the Students' Association can provide a list of Solicitors and Estate Agents on request.

Community Liaison Team

If you need information or advice when you're living in Halls of Residence, help is at hand from our Community Liaison Officer, supported by a team of Student Residents' Assistants (SRAs). Their job is to ensure your well-being and to help you get the most out of communal life. They can help you with queries or concerns and also organise social events to help you settle in and get to know people.
