CAPES Scholarships for PHDs

The Brazilian government launched a new call through one of its agencies (CAPES) for full PhD scholarships.

In this call they are offering 200 scholarships. These can be for up to 4 years – if the student already plans to take a 4-year period, the offer letter must state that the degree is for 48 months.

Scholarships will pay for: monthly stipend, return airfare, relocation assistance, health insurance and tuition fees. They also cover dependants’ costs.

Any research costs/bench fees must be included in the project proposal and will be analysed by CAPES.

The applicant must present:

. correspondence with the potential supervisor(s), containing the supervisor’s interest in the project proposal, the research area, and start/end dates of the PhD.

. the CV of potential supervisor(s)

The applicant must present the formal offer letter in a later phase, as part of the acceptance of the scholarship.

The offer letter must inform the start/end dates of the degree (month/year), the duration of the degree and the fees.

Brazilian nationals who are already studying abroad can also apply. In this case, they must send a letter, in University branded paper and signed by the supervisor, with information on the start/end dates of the PhD and the current development of the studies.
