UG Personal Tutoring Meeting Schedule

Schedule of Meetings - September 2023

You should receive an invitation from your tutor to meet with them at the start of the term. If you do not hear from your tutor by the end of September, and wish to schedule an appointment, please send them an email directly or contact personaltutor@abdn.ac.uk .

Each School has their own format for scheduling meetings which you can see below by selecting the School of your tutor. Meetings will be online or in person as is agreed between those involved.

Please note that if you are a new student this information will be available after you have completed Online Registration.

How will it work in my School?

The Personal Tutor system as discussed in these pages applies across the University.  Reflecting the different natures of the Schools and the student experiences there, however, each School has their own policies on the details of delivery.

Meeting format by School

Business School

A warm welcome to the Business School if you are new to the university and welcome back to all our returning students. Please note that you will receive an email from your Personal Tutor inviting you to a meeting. If you could respond to this, it would be very much appreciated. 

School of Biological Sciences

A warm welcome to the School of Biological Studies if you are new to the university and welcome back to all our returning students. Our Personal Tutor meetings will take place on Thursday 23rd September at the following times-

Level 1- 14:00-14:30

Level 2- 14:30-15:00

Level 3- 15:00-15:30

Level 4 +UG 5 15:30-16:00

Students will be sent an email with joining instructions the week before and we would appreciate if you could respond to this email to let your Personal Tutor know if you are going to be able to attend the meeting or if you would like an alternative meeting set up for you.

 

School of Divinity, History & Philosophy

A warm welcome to all students, new and returning, to the School of Divinity, Philosophy and History

Your Personal Tutor will contact you directly by email, and you will be invited to meet them at the start of term. Your Tutor will provide details of the specific date and time of the meeting.

Please ensure you respond to your Personal Tutor’s email as soon as you receive it to confirm your attendance or to arrange an alternative day and time to meet.

School of Education

You will be invited to meet with your Personal Tutor.  Please ensure you respond to the meeting request as soon as possible. 

If your Personal Tutor is not available during the first 2 weeks of term and you need a meeting urgently, feel free to contact the Senior Personal Tutor for the School of Education, George Drew.

School of Engineering

Tutors will contact students to arrange meetings which should take place before the end of September 2021. If you have not heard from your tutor at that point, please get in touch with them to arrange a meeting. If you accept a meeting with your tutor it is important that you show up or send your apologies well in advance.

School of Geosciences

Your Personal Tutor will send you an e-mail and arrange a time to meet with you, during the first 2 weeks of the term.

If your Personal Tutor is not available during the first 2 weeks and you need a meeting urgently, feel free to contact the Senior Personal Tutor for the School of Geosciences -

School of Law

A warm welcome to the School of Law if you are new to the University and welcome back to all our returning students.

Your Personal Tutor will contact you directly by email in September 2021 to invite you to a meeting. Your Personal Tutor will provide details of the specific date and time, and venue of the meeting (which may be on campus and/or online).

Please ensure you respond to your Personal Tutor’s invitation as soon as you receive it to confirm your availability or to arrange an alternative day and time to meet.

School of Language, Literature, Music & Visual Culture

Welcome to all students, new and returning, to the School of Language, Literature, Music and Visual Culture.

Your Personal Tutor will contact you directly by email. You will be invited to meet with your Tutor at the start of term. Your Tutor will suggest a specific date and time of the meeting.

Please ensure you respond to your Personal Tutor’s email as soon as you receive it to confirm your availability or else to arrange an alternative day and time to meet if you are unable to attend at the suggested time.

School of Medicine, Medical Sciences & Nutrition

Your tutor will invite you to a meeting which is most likely to be virtual online.

If you cannot make the meeting suggested by your tutor then please let your tutor know so alternative arrangements can be made. Most University communication is via email so please check your email account at least daily to ensure you do not miss any important messages.

If you have questions before your meeting you are welcome to email your tutor at any time. Most students will retain the same personal tutor over the course of their studies but if you have changed degree programme or if your tutor has left the University you may be allocated a new tutor. 

 

School of Natural & Computing Sciences

Your tutor will contact you by email to arrange a meeting with you at the start of term. Please check your email regularly and respond promptly to confirm or arrange an alternative date and time. If you have not received a meeting invitation by the start of the third week of teaching please contact the School Senior Personal Tutor, Dr Peter Henderson, p.henderson@abdn.ac.uk

School of Psychology

A warm welcome to the School of Psychology if you are new to the university and welcome back to all our returning students.

Your Personal Tutor will contact you directly by email. It is important that you respond to their email. You will be invited to meet with your Personal Tutor in September. Your Personal Tutor will provide details of the specific date and time (Venue may be virtual online), and venue of the meeting. Please ensure you respond to your Personal Tutor’s email as soon as you receive it to confirm your availability or to arrange an alternative day and time to meet.

School of Social Sciences

Personal Tutors will meet with their students in September, this may be virtual.

If your personal tutor is not available on these dates, they will offer students an alternative date in the same weeks.
