Schedule of Meetings - September 2019

You should receive an invitation from your tutor to meet with them at the start of the year.  If you do not hear from your tutor, and wish to schedule an appointment, please send them an email directly or contact infohub@abdn.ac.uk.  You can find details of your tutor and their email via your Student Hub.

Each School has their own format for scheduling meetings which you can see below by selecting the School of your tutor.

Please note that if you are a new student this information will be available after you have completed Online Registration.

Business School

A warm welcome to the Business School if you are new to the university and welcome back to all our returning students. Please note that you will receive an email from your Personal Tutor inviting you to a meeting at the beginning of September. If you could respond to this, it would be very much appreciated. 

School of Biological Sciences

Personal Tutor Meetings, Friday 6 September 2019

Level 4 and MSci Level 5 - 10:00 - 10:30
Level 3 (and direct entry Level 3) - 10:30-11:00
Level 2 (and direct entry Level 2) - 11:00-11:30
Level 1- 11:30 - 12:00
The meetings will take place in either ZB03/ZG09 or the PT's office.

School of Divinity, History & Philosophy

A warm welcome to all students, new and returning, to the School of Divinity, Philosophy and History

At the beginning of September, your Personal Tutor will contact you directly by email, and you will be invited to meet them during Fresher’s Week or the following week. Your Tutor will provide details of the specific date, time, and venue of the meeting.

Please ensure you respond to your Personal Tutor’s email as soon as you receive it to confirm your attendance or to arrange an alternative day and time to meet.

You will be invited to meet with your Personal Tutor at the beginning of September.  Please ensure you respond to the meeting request as soon as possible. 

If your Personal Tutor is not available during the first 2 weeks of September and you need a meeting urgently, feel free to contact the Senior Personal Tutor for the School of Education, George Drew.

School of Engineering

Tutors will contacting students to arrange meetings which should take place by 20th September 2019. If you have not heard from your tutor by 13th September then please contact them to arrange a meeting. If you accept a meeting with your tutor it is important that you show up or send your apologies well in advance.

School of Geosciences

Your Personal Tutor will send you an e-mail and arrange a time to meet with you, during the first 2 weeks of the term.

The meetings usually take place in your Personal Tutors office.

If your Personal Tutor is not available during the first 2 weeks and you need a meeting urgently, feel free to contact the Senior Personal Tutor for the School of Geosciences -  
Dr Charlotta Hillerdal.

School of Law

You will be invited to meet with your tutor at the beginning of September. Please respond asap to this request.

School of Language, Literature, Music & Visual Culture

A warm welcome (back) to the School of Language, Literature, Music and Visual Culture.

 

At the beginning of September, your Personal Tutor will contact you directly by email. You will be invited to meet with your Tutor during Fresher’s Week or the following weeks. Your Tutor will suggest a specific date, time, and venue of the meeting – usually you will meet in your Tutor’s office.

 

Please ensure you respond to your Personal Tutor’s email as soon as you receive it to confirm your attendance or else to arrange an alternative day and time to meet if you are unable to attend at the suggested time.

 

Please contact your Personal Tutor directly if you did not get an invite from him or her.

School of Medicine, Medical Sciences & Nutrition

If you are entering Year 1, or a new entrant to a higher year of study, in the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition you should already have received a letter in the post outlining induction arrangements during Welcome Week. With regard to Personal Tutor meetings, these will take place in the Zoology Building between 10.15am and noon on the first Thursday in September (10.15am - 12pm Thursday of Welcome Week). Please come along to the foyer of the Zoology Building during this time and someone there will greet you and direct you to your Personal Tutor.

If you are a returning student studying any of the Medical Sciences subjects you should receive an email from your Personal Tutor within two weeks from the start of term.

Your tutor will invite you to a meeting which may be in the tutor’s office on the Foresterhill campus where most medical sciences tutors are based. If this is the case the 9U bus will take you from Old Aberdeen to Foresterhill and can be caught from outside the Duncan Rice Library.

If you cannot make the meeting suggested by your tutor then please let your tutor know so alternative arrangements can be made. Most University communication is via email so please check your email account at least daily to ensure you do not miss any important messages.

If you have questions before your meeting you are welcome to email your tutor at any time. Most students will retain the same personal tutor over the course of their studies but if you have changed degree programme or if your tutor has left the University you may be allocated a new tutor. 

School of Natural & Computing Sciences

Your tutor will contact you by email to arrange a meeting with you during Fresher’s Week or the first two weeks of term. Please check your email regularly and respond promptly to confirm or arrange an alternative date and time. If you have not received a meeting invitation by the start of the third week of teaching please contact the School Senior Personal Tutor, Dr Peter Henderson, p.henderson@abdn.ac.uk

School of Psychology

A warm welcome to the School of Psychology if you are new to the university and welcome back to all our returning students.

Your Personal Tutor will contact you directly by email in September. It is important that you respond to their email. You will be invited to meet with your Personal Tutor during Freshers’ Week or the following week. Your Personal Tutor will provide details of the specific date, time, and venue of the meeting. It is anticipated that most meetings will take place in the William Guild Building between September 4th – 6th. Please ensure you respond to your Personal Tutor’s email as soon as you receive it to confirm your attendance or to arrange an alternative day and time to meet.

School of Social Sciences

Personal Tutors will meet their Level 1 students on Thursday 5 September and/or Friday 6 September, and their Levels 2-4 students on Monday 16 September and/or Tuesday 17 September.

 

If your personal tutor is not available on these dates, they will offer students an alternative date in the same weeks.

 

All personal tutors have sign-up sheets with plenty of timeslots on their office doors so that personal tutees can come along to the School in the Edward Wright Building and sign up for a slot that suits them best. The colleagues in the School office in room F50 are always happy to show new students to their tutor’s office if they feel lost.
