Pastoral Support and Guidance

Pastoral Support and Guidance

The University has a number of systems which provide pastoral support and guidance for students throughout your studies.

Pastoral support is provided by a member of staff in your School, who will help you reflect on your progress and take advantage of the opportunities available to you during your studies. They can also direct you to specialist support when it’s needed.

  • For a quick guide to support services available to you, view this page.

If you have any queries, email student.support@abdn.ac.uk

Your Personal Tutor can also provide general support in achieving the UoA graduate attributes, enhancing your employability and taking advantage of co-curricular opportunities.

Regents

In the healthcare programmes offered by the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition the support provided varies slightly. Academic support provided by Personal Tutors in other programmes are instead provided by the Year Lead teams. The pastoral support is focused on promoting wellbeing in each student.

The School operates an additional longstanding pastoral support system known as the Regent Scheme.

Each healthcare student is assigned to a senior member of University or NHS staff who will meet with them regularly and be available to provide support and guidance on any personal problems that the student may have during their course. These senior staff members will have a good understanding of what it is like to work in the clinical situation and issues arising from that.

The Regent can also act as a mentor to support the student’s professional development. They can provide opportunities for contacts, networks, research and further learning experiences in the clinical situation.

Qatar

Students on the University of Aberdeen Doha campus can avail themselves of the same level of academic and personal support that is afforded to the Aberdeen campus students.

Students in Qatar should know that, whether they wish to discuss academic or non-academic issues, they can do so in confidence and in the knowledge that their issue will be pursued to a satisfactory conclusion.

On-Demand Online Study

Our first class support structure will ensure that our students aren’t alone in their studies. Students will have contact with their tutors via MyAberdeen and email, and can use social media and discussion boards to chat with fellow students too.

Wherever you are in the world, you'll be part of our very special Aberdeen learning community.
