FAQs - Meet & Greet

Is registration mandatory? What happens if I do not book the service?

In order that we can ensure students get the best experience it’s important that you register in advance so that we know that you’re arriving.

Does it cost money?

No, the meet & greet service does not cost any money. However, if you need to take a taxi or public transport to your accommodation, this may incur a charge.

What sort of transportation is available once I arrive?

AUSA usually provides coaches during the busiest times during Welcome Weekend from the Airport to university accommodation. However, if you arrive outside this time please be aware of the public transportation options…

Aberdeen Airport is well connected with an express bus Jet 727 that leaves every 15 minutes from the Airport to the city centre (cost is approximately £3.00). There are also taxis available to take you direct to your accommodation which will cost £15 - £25.

What if I am not arriving on the official Welcome Weekend?

While we would encourage students to arrive on the Saturday of Welcome Weekend as best they can, we understand that this is not always possible and therefore have provided information on 'making your own way to your accommodation.

Welcome Week - September 2019

Welcome Week will take place from Monday 2nd to Friday 6th September 2019. If arriving by air please register for the Meet and Greet service (see tab below).

A welcome fair will take place throughout that week that will help you get started. Infohub and IT Services will be available at Hillhead Student Village on Saturday 31st August and Sunday 1st September to help you complete registration.

Keep an eye on the student events webpage for more details or download the AUSA mobile app for full details of what’s happening.

King's Cup Competition

The King’s CupThe King’s Cup

There’s School Pride at stake...Who will win this year?

The King’s Cup is a fun-filled competition for new students where Schools compete against each other to win a School BBQ party. This year, students are also competing against each other, and the individual with the most points will also win a £50 amazon voucher.

The King's Cup asks you to take part in challenges and quizzes using a mobile app called Actionbound. You will find your school QR start codes below to begin the challenge - simply scan this to start the King's Cup and begin collecting points for your School. Be sure to start with the correct one so that your points will be added to your school’s overall total.

Once you’re in the challenge you can play the stages in any order. Some stages will need to be played on Welcome Week. For example you can scan a QR code at the AUSA Fayres on Tuesday or Wednesday to earn points.

Remember that if you skip any tasks within a stage you won’t be able to return so only skip a stage if you are sure you don’t want to complete it.

You can also use the directional back arrow at the top of the screen to return to the menu if you wish to play a different stage and return to another at a later date.

At the end of Welcome Week (6 September) you need to ‘finish’ the King's Cup by uploading your results. Remember not to upload your results until you are sure you have finished. (You won’t need to complete every stage either so if there are some sessions that you are unable to attend then don’t worry!).

Watch the directional video below for instructions on how to navigate around the app.

Good luck and let the games begin!
