The Early Music Ensembles of Aberdeen University perform Francesca Caccini's La Liberazione di Ruggiero dall' isola di Alcina (1625). This is the oldest surviving opera by a female composer! The powerful sorceress Melissa rescues the knight Ruggiero from the enchanted island of the evil sorceress Alcina and her Sea Monsters! International experts in historical performance will coach the young musicians, and Aberdeenshire equestrians will participate in the splendid horse ballet! This is going to be the WEIRDEST, most WONDERFUL baroque opera project Aberdeen has ever seen!
