27 January is the day the world remembers the Holocaust, its victims and those from other acts of genocide throughout history.

During the Holocaust ordinary people were perpetrators, bystanders, rescuers and witnesses – and ordinary people were victims.

Events happening in Aberdeen for Holocaust Memorial Day are listed below:

Lunchtime Holocaust Memorial Day Event

Cowdray Hall, 11.45am - 1.15pm

Supported by Aberdeen Holocaust Memorial Committee, Aberdeen City Council and many local organisations, this event is an opportunity for us to come together to remember the victims and survivors of all genocides.

Members of the University community are invited to meet at 11am at the Multifaith Chaplaincy. From there we will walk (weather dependant) to the event at the Cowdray Hall at 12 noon. The walk is approximately 30mins (1.5 miles).

Holocaust Memorial Day Talk with Chava Nissimov

Aberdeen City Library, 6pm - 7pm

Social activist, writer, and Holocaust survivor Chava Nissimov will speak on her experiences of growing up in, and escaping from, the Warsaw Ghetto.

Four Pillars LGBTQ+ Remembrance: Reflecting on Queer Lives in the 1930s  

4 Unity Cafe, 5pm - 8pm

Join Four Pillars at 4 Unity Café to honor Holocaust Memorial Day with a poignant exploration of Queer life in the 1930s. 

This event delves into the challenges, persecution, and resilience of LGBTQ+ individuals during this dark period in history. Through stories and reflections, we remember those who endured unimaginable hardship and ensure their experiences are never forgotten. 

All are welcome to this free event. Reflect, remember, and learn together.
