Across the World.....

University of Aberdeen students take part in Fun Run, as part of Qatar National Sports Day 2019!

Students of the University's Doha Campus in Qatar came together on the 12th February to celebrate Qatar's National Sports Day. The event saw hundreds of students, family members and staff of AFG College taking part in a 3km run through the Al Waab area of Doha, all in support of promoting a healthier lifestyle across the community. The Run was sponsored by NBK Holding, an automobile company in Doha, which has become a key partner with the University in leading wider community engagement!

Did you know... From 15th February, AutoPlay will be disabled on classroom PCs. This means that your USB drive will no longer pop up automatically when you insert it into a classroom PC. But don't worry, you can still access your USB drive via the 'This PC' icon on the desktop, or from within programs such as MS Word, by browsing the File > Open, or File > Save/Save As dialogs.

Why is this happening? While AutoPlay is convenient, it can also be exploited, allowing malware and viruses to launch undetected; so it is being disabled as part of the University’s ongoing information security measures.

You may have heard about January's targeted cyber-attack on the University, and the more recent SMS phishing incidents. In light of this, the IT Security Team have been making efforts to ensure that students know how to stay safe online, and keep personal information secure. February's focus is on this phenomenon, known as 'phishing'...
