In 2018, the University launched a new PhD programme, Queen’s University Belfast & Aberdeen Doctoral Research and Training (QUADRAT), to bring together research and teaching centres of excellence and provide multidisciplinary training experience in Biological Sciences and Geosciences.

A £5 million collaboration with Queen’s University Belfast, the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), and a broad network of partners, QUADRAT is a unique PhD opportunity that equips 100 students with the skills and knowledge required to become the next generation of scientific leaders in academia, industry and policy development.

With three main themes of Environmental Management, Biodiversity and Earth Systems, the programme offers students training, diverse knowledge and a transferable skills base to ensure they are competitive as research leaders across a range of career paths and can address the most significant environmental and societal challenges of our time.
