The Personal Tutor System
The University introduced a system of Personal Tutors for all undergraduate students in September 2013 (with the exception of Medicine where the Regent scheme continues). This Personal Tutor system provides general support to students in matters such as achievement of the Graduate Attributes, Employability, Co-curricular opportunities and feedback as well as providing a pastoral support role.
All members of academic staff undertake a role as a personal tutor and are assigned a relatively small number of tutees from across all years of study. As far as possible, tutees will be assigned to a personal tutor from their School of study and will remain with the same personal tutor throughout their studies. Through this continuity of contact a meaningful and supportive tutor:tutee relationship will be established.
A Steering Group leads the work associated with the implementation and ongoing development of this scheme. A Senior Personal Tutor Forum is playing a key role in the development of training and support materials as well as the implementation and operation of the scheme.

Personal Tutor Scheme
The Senate approved the establishment of a Personal Tutor Scheme from the start of session 2013/14. The scheme involves all academic staff and all undergraduate students (with the exception of those on the Degree of MBChB where the Regent Scheme will continue).
The Personal Tutor role focuses on providing general support to students in matters such as achievement of the Graduate Attributes, Employability, Co-curricular opportunities and feedback as well as a pastoral support role. All members of academic staff have a role as a personal tutor and will be assigned a number of undergraduate students from the same school or programme of study. The intention, as far as possible, is for all students to be assigned to the same personal tutor throughout their studies and that this continuity of contact will enable a more meaningful and supportive tutor/student relationship to be built.
A Senior Personal Tutoring Forum is in place to lead the ongoing work associated with the operation of the scheme, with one Senior Personal Tutor appointed in each School. Senior Personal Tutors will play a key role in the development of training and support materials as well as the implementation and operation of the scheme.
The Senior Personal Tutor in your School will ensure you are kept informed of the development of the Scheme through regular updates.
