After graduating from Rivers State University with a Second Class Upper Degree and was subsequently called to the Nigerian Bar, he proceeded to the University of Aberdeen where he completed a Masters in Oil and Gas law with Distinction. He is currently a Doctoral Researcher at the University of Aberdeen where he is completing his PhD in “Risk Governance in the UK Offshore Wind Energy: Lessons From its Offshore Oil and Gas Industry”. He is also a Senior Partner at AccendoJuris, a Nigerian based law firm.
With several awards such as best research presentation at the 2015 Strathclyde Postgraduate law conference, Barrister Wifa has proven to be an exceptional legal researcher and critical analyst. He is an astute contracts specialist with far-reaching proficiency in oil and gas law contracts. His publication on the judicial interpretation of consequential loss and its application to the oil and gas industry has been widely referenced. He is also a consultant on the construction of contract clauses especially regarding stabilisation clauses, Production Sharing Agreement (PSA), risk migration and third party implication.
He is an environmental law activist and an advocate for best global environmental standards and social corporate responsibility in the Nigerian extractive industry. Some of his views on these issues are conveyed in his, publication on “the role of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in the Nigerian oil and gas industry using the United Nation’s environmental programme EIA on Ogoni as a case study”. He has been engaged to review and evaluate the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) that are directly relevant to these issues.
He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), International Bar Association (IBA), and Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (USA).
