Fabric of the Land 2013

Fabric of the Land 2013

A series of open submission exhibitions exploring the links between art and science.

Fabric of the Land is a series of open submission exhibitions exploring the links between art and science and is held in the Geology and Petroleum Geology Department at the University of Aberdeen.

The exhibition is now in its fifth year and is going from strength to strength with entries form all over the UK and worldwide.

Fabric of the Land is a quest to investigate the inspiration given to art by examination of characteristics of the physical landscape.

We encourage investigation that embraces micro to giga-scale features, from fossil pollen grains and clay particles to mountain chains and Earth’s structure. No natural occurrence of colour, form or structure is 'off limits' as subject matter.

In 2013 Fabric of the Land provides an open brief for emerging and established artists to express their inspiration from the landscape and escape from the constraints of accuracy and precision that are inherent in scientific description.
