Covid-19 - Staff update - no detriment procedures

Staff update - 16 April 2020

Dear colleagues

I do hope that you are well and managing as well as is possible in these difficult circumstances.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the tremendous work that has been carried out in developing online materials and supporting our students.

As you will be aware, we have been working hard to put in place a number of measures to support students in these challenging times. The University is committed to encouraging and supporting students to continue with their studies and to complete their best work and as such, these measures aim to adhere to a principle of ‘no detriment’ for students.

The University recognises that this is an anxious time for students and that many may have difficulties, for a variety of reasons, in completing further assessment at this time. Our commitment to students is to support them so that they can continue with their studies in as supportive an environment as possible.

We have put in place a number of procedures which aim to mitigate the current circumstances created by Covid-19, and this ‘no detriment procedures’ document provides information on the assessment of levels 3, 4 and 5 for undergraduate and postgraduate taught students.

The no detriment procedures document is supported by a set of Frequently Asked Questions to provide guidance on the implementation of no detriment. Many of the procedures will already be familiar to you, and you will see that there is some further flexibility within those procedures as we aim to achieve an appropriate balance between supporting our students while maintaining the fairness and the integrity of a University of Aberdeen award.

Thank you to the colleagues, students, and AUSA who provided extremely helpful feedback that enabled us to develop these no detriment procedures. If you have further questions that are not answered by the FAQs, please contact academicservices@abdn.ac.uk.

Best wishes,

Ruth
