Celebrating our European links

Celebrating our European links

The University is holding an event for staff and students in celebration of its links with Europe on January 31st.

Professor George Boyne, University Principal, and Professor Ruth Taylor, Vice-Principal for Education, will speak at the informal drop-in session taking place on the top floor of the Sir Duncan Rice Library, from 1-3pm.  The Principal will be announcing a new University fund to initiate additional research links with European universities and to strengthen existing links.

Staff from the University’s Human Resources, International, and Research and Innovation teams will be on hand with advice on a broad range of issues connected to the UK’s departure from the EU, including information on immigration for EU staff and students, study abroad opportunities through Erasmus, and future arrangements for cross-European research partnerships.

The interactive event will also invite staff and students to share their ideas on how the University can continue to foster links with Europe and develop existing partnerships.

Principal George Boyne said: “This event is being held to provide assurance to staff and students that the University is determined to maintain and strengthen its links with Europe, as it has done through the centuries.

“A global outlook has always been key to our development as an institution, and I’m particularly proud of the wonderful growth in the number of European students and staff who play a pivotal role in the University’s success.

“As we approach our 525th birthday it is important that we celebrate our links to Europe with a clear message that our shared story will continue, and I invite staff and students to join me on January 31st to help us celebrate these links and look ahead with optimism to the development of our European connections."
