In conversation with Tina Weaver, Chief Executive of Wellbeing of Women
Queen of Crime Val McDermid will be in conversation with Wellbeing of Women CEO Tina Weaver, the best-selling author will be talking about her work, life and new book ‘Broken Ground’.
Guests will be treated to a glass of fizz on arrival followed by a delicious 2 course lunch with coffee and a sweet bite, as well as a special performance from the University of Aberdeen Chapel Choir, conducted by composer Professor Paul Mealor OStJ.

Bookings can be made for groups, and you will be seated together with a maximum of 12 per table. Individuals booking will be randomly allocated a seat unless you advise us specifically who the other members of your party are and we will do our best to seat you together. Val McDermid
Val has sold over 15 million books to date, in over 40 languages. She is perhaps best-known for her 'Wire in the Blood' series, featuring clinical psychologist Dr Tony Hill and DCI Carol Jordan, which was adapted for television starring Robson Green.
As well as producing a bestselling novel every year, Val is a regular on TV, radio and in print. Her recent projects include two BBC Radio 4 dramas, chairing the Wellcome Book Prize and captaining the 2016 winning University Challenge alumnae team!
Her awards, too numerous to list, include the Outstanding Contribution to Crime Fiction Award, the CWA Gold Dagger for best crime novel of the year, the Grand Prix des Romans D’Aventure, the Lambda Literary Foundation Pioneer Award and the LA Times Book of the Year Award, as well as Celebrity Mastermind champion! She is a Fellow of both the Royal Society of Literature and The Royal Society of Edinburgh.
Val will be discussing her writing, her inspirations and the fatal attraction of crime fiction!
The University of Aberdeen Chapel Choir and Professor Paul Mealor
The University of Aberdeen Chapel Choir is an auditioned choir comprising of students and staff. The choir specialises in contemporary music and has worked with many distinguished composers including James MacMillan, Judith Weir and Morten Lauridsen, as well as Stephen Layton, Christopher Bell, James Jordan and Ralph Allwood. In March 2017, their CD ‘Immortal Memory’ reached number 3 in the UK Classical charts. The choir sings at regular University Chapel services and special events.
Conductor and Professor in Composition, Professor Paul Mealor was catapulted to international stardom in April 2011, when 2.5 billion people (the largest audience in broadcasting history) heard his Motet, Ubi caritas, performed at the Royal Wedding Ceremony of His Royal Highness Prince William and Catherine Middleton (now TRH The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge) at Westminster Abbey. Paul was also the first classical composer to hold both the classical and pop chart No 1’s at the same time in December 2011, securing the UK Christmas No 1 with his piece for The Military Wives Choir and Gareth Malone, ‘Wherever You Are’.
Paul has received many awards and honours for his music and is President and Patron of many organisations. In January 2018, HM Queen Elizabeth II appointed him an Officer of the Venerable Order of St John (OStJ).
