Biography: Logices in Acad: Lugd prof. Philosopher and naturalist. Born Aberdeen, Scotland, bap. 1577. Educated Aberdeen grammar school then Marischal College. Continued his studies at Helmstadt 1598-1601, Herborn 1601-3 (also professor extraordinarius), Leiden 1603. Given permission to teach the Isagoge by Porphyrius on Wednesdays and Saturdays, Sept 1603. Professor extraordinarius of rhetoric 1605-17, extended to include ethics 1607-17. M.D. 1611. Full professor 1612. Professor of physic 1617. Wrote a number of textbooks. Suspended from university posts 1619 (for religious reasons), reinstated 1623. Died Leiden, 1628.
