Hay, George

Biography: Church of Scotland minister. By papal dispensation he held the benefices of Eddleston, Peeblesshire, and Rathven, Aberdeenshire, where he was rector by 10 July 1558. Andrew Hay, rector of Glasgow University, was his brother. In 1565 the general assembly commissioned him to visit churches, schools, and colleges in Aberdeen and Banff. His second publication, a lecture delivered at King's College, Aberdeen, on 2 July 1569, as part of a campaign to end its continued attachment to Catholicism, appeared in 1571 under the title M. G. Hayi oratio habita in gymnasio Aberdonensi. On 25 July 1578 he was appointed a visitor of the University of Aberdeen. Died at Rathven in 1588.
