The School of Social Science is connected to several specialised research centres at the University of Aberdeen.
These centres bring together groups of scholars with shared research interests, sometimes from a range of academic disciplines, and foster links with other universities.
The main mission of the Centre for European Survey Research is to plan, conduct and publish international-comparative research in the social and political sciences on the basis of comparative national, regional and local opinion surveys.
The New Europe Centre Aberdeen is concerned with European social research. It consists of a variety of people and projects at the University of Aberdeen and outside who are working on the problem of understanding Europe in terms of people, values and behaviour. An important aspect of this work is also to look at policy measures and implications.
The Centre for Global Security and Governance, housed in the School of Divinity History & Philosophy, brings together academic experts, policy makers, and students from across the University of Aberdeen, the United Kingdom, and the globe to define, analyse, and propose remedies to the most pressing security and governance challenges the world faces in the 21st century. CGSG's expertise includes radicalisation, conflict and security, democracy and (in)stability, development, and sustainability.
