G2M students share their experiences of settling in on the first few days of their course.

It’s the first day with the people we’re going to spend much of our future medical careers with!

Some of us are feeling nervous and some excited, we’ve came from all different backgrounds and places, from Turriff to Shetland, Peterhead to Stornoway, Glasgow to Harris, and some of us are more used to an environment like this than others. It’s a big change - for many of us it’s the first time we’ve had to use an oven or a washing machine without assistance, and we’ve had to leave our families. We’re worried about how the course might be, but also having a good time meeting each other. No matter what the future weeks will bring, we know we have each other.

When we arrived at NESCOL, I could tell that it was a friendly environment and felt comfortable. It was very busy and was a little overwhelming when coming from a small place with few students in the local high school. However, while we walked around getting to know the college I started to feel more relaxed and ready to start my classes.

Next was our tour of the University. It was very different to NESCOL and I could feel a change in the environment. It was a larger campus and with a lot more students. We moved from building to building getting to know the area. It made me very excited to be able to start the year ahead of me with my new classmates and friends. Having completed both visits, it made me feel much more confident for starting the course having been introduced to both places.
