MRC Centre for Medical Mycology logoContinuing our efforts to provide world-leading research experience, we are very pleased to announce that the MRC Centre for Medical Mycology, School of Medicine, Medical Sciences & Nutrition, will be offering annual scholarship prizes over the summer.

The successful candidates will be offered a choice of research projects and will spend EIGHT WEEKS working at a leading national or international Institution. All offered projects will allow the student to be involved in laboratory research, providing a great opportunity to gain laboratory research skills as well as exposure to study design and results interpretation. It is clearly a unique opportunity and will have a transformational effect on one's career as a clinician scientist.

As this opportunity requires some medical knowledge and is an eight-week research project placement, only senior medical students who are undertaking a BMedSci (either after 3rd or 4th year) will be eligible for this unique opportunity.

The scholarship will cover travel, accommodation and subsistence. Applications will be requested in November with interviews in early December.

Anyone interested can find out more on the Centre website and is welcome to discuss the programme with Professor Gordon Brown and Professor Adilia Warris.

Student experiences from Summer 2016:

Hear from Roberta Garau about her experience in Brazil working in Professor Gustavo Goldman's lab at the University of São Paulo studying Aspergillus nidulans, a poorly understood fungal pathogen that infects children with chronic granulomatous disease.

Elliott gemmell tells us about his time working in Professor Bruce Klein's lab at the University of Wisconsin-Madison studying how cells respond to infection with the fungal pathogen, Aspergillus fumigatus - a major cause of infection and mortality in people with compromised immune systems.
