Biography

Wayne Price is a Senior Lecturer in English Literature and Creative Writing. His teaching and scholarship specialisms are in 20th century American poetry and fiction, and he publishes short stories, poetry and novels. He has won numerous national and international awards for fiction and poetry and has twice been a finalist in the Manchester International Poetry Prize (2013 and 2014), one of the UK's richest poetry awards. His short story collection Furnace (Freight Books, 2012) was longlisted for the Frank O'Connor Prize and nominated for the Saltire Scottish First Book of the Year.

He was awarded a BA in English from the University of Wales Aberystwyth in 1987 and a PhD from the University of Edinburgh in 1991. He contributes teaching to a number of Honours courses in modern literature and all modules on the MLitt in Creative Writing. He is currently the Undergraduate Programme Coordinator for Creative Writing at Aberdeen.

His most recent publications are a novel, Mercy Seat (Freight Books, 2015) and a pamphlet collection of poetry, Fossil Record (Smith|Doorstop, 2015), one of Carol Ann Duffy's four 'Laureate's Choices'.

Currently suprvised PhDs: 'A Wilder Tree': A creative exploration of postmemory and its function between women within the dynamic of a patriarchal family; ‘Of the Devil’s Party’: A Research Study and Creative Reimagining of Folk-Tale Archetypes and ‘Devil’s Bargains’ as a Method of Narrative Engagement with the Tensions and Complexities of Contemporary Scottish Identity; 'Eyeing the Dream Girl': A Creative Exploration of Gendered and Racial Identity and Perception in Narrative Constructions of the ‘Manic Pixie Dream Girl’ Trope; 'Border Silence': A Creative Exploration of Transcultural Lives in the Mediterranean.

Research Grants

In 2011 I was awarded a Creative Scotland/Scottish Book Trust New Writer Award towards the completion of a second collection of short stories set in south Wales during the miners' strike.
