Women in German Studies Conference

Crossing Thresholds – Women in German Studies Open Conference, 24-26th June 2021, University of Aberdeen (Online)

The German Department is delighted to be hosting the next Women in German Studies Open Conference (online) on 24-26 June 2021. WIGS is an organisation that was founded in 1988 to support women in German Studies in all aspects of their professional lives. The organisation hosts an annual members’ conference, while WIGS Open Conferences are held every four to five years, and are open to people of all genders, members and non-members of WIGS.

The theme for our Open Conference is ‘Crossing Thresholds’, and five interrelated panels will explore questions relating to this core theme. There will also be a special panel strand at the conference addressing matters of Diversity and Inclusivity in German Studies. Prof I. M. Nick (Germanic Society for Forensic Linguistics) will give the keynote lecture, and there will be an author reading by Hanna Sukare. A dedicated workshop for Postgrads and Early Career Academics will focus on well-being.

The conference is hosted with the generous support of the DAAD, Women in German Studies, and the University of Aberdeen.
