Ireland and India were both British colonies, this talk will explore the ways that they were interconnected, from Gerald Aungier, the Irish founding father of Bombay in the 17th century to the 2017 election of Leo Varadkar, the son of an Indian born doctor, as the Prime Minister, or Taoiseach, of Ireland. Explore these fascinating connections and learn about this lesser known aspect of Britain’s Imperial past.
