Proliferative Kidney Disease (PKD), is caused by the myxozoan parasite Tretracapsuloides bryosalmonae, remains a considerable threat to the sustainability of the rainbow trout industry in western Europe and North America.
Currently researchers here are optimising the culture of the parasite in the laboratory, which is a crucial prerequisite in preparing large amount of highly pure parasite material needed to develop whole-parasite vaccines.
