Art, ethics and Levinas.
This talk on art, ethics and Levinas is by artist Alana Jelinek and the process of writing and delivering the talk can be understood as part of her praxis. Praxis for Alana is the process by which theory informs practice which then informs theory (and so on). As an artist who writes theory of art, for example, 'This is Not Art' (I.B.Tauris 2013), philosophy, anthropological theory, politics and other disciplines inform her work, both in terms of theory and in terms of practice. This talk is an investigation into ethics in her own art films and the art films of others. Although already engaged in questions of ethics, it is hoped that the process of writing and delivering this talk about ethics will serve to further inform, deepen and move on, not only Jelinek's theory, but her practice as well.
