An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Project Manager to join the team in the development of a GP teaching Hub in Aberdeen. The NHS has a workforce crisis.  In 2022 the Scottish Government funded increased numbers of student places in all medical schools and postgraduate medical programmes. Capacity for teaching places has been stretched as a result and from 2026/2027 we will not have enough GP practice placements to accommodate our senior years medical students.  (250 students in 5th year currently, 340 expected in 2026/27)

Job Description

The teaching hub will be an immersive learning environment with students consulting in pairs and supervised by specific GP tutors. Patients will be recruited from local practices for acute, on the day care and management. Students will be divided into 2 groups in 5th year. One group will spend 4 weeks in a practice based across Scotland before coming back to Aberdeen for the remaining 4 weeks. The other will attend vice versa.

It is anticipated that this project be accommodated closely with the GMED team (Grampian Out of Hours Service) where most of Grampian’s unscheduled primary care work is covered. The accommodation will need to be big enough to house enough consulting rooms with appropriate break out space for feedback. There is anticipated working alongside colleagues in mental health within this project to ensure smooth transition of students during their placements.

A Project Manager is sought to have oversight of this large-scale project which intersects with NHS Grampian, The University of Aberdeen and Aberdeen City Health and Social Care Partnership. Funding will need to be secured for staffing and accommodation of this project through NHS ACT applications. It is anticipated that the project be fully evaluated alongside the research team and appropriate publication produced as a result.

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Project Manager to lead the development and implementation of this ambitious project.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 7 scale, 60% of £46,485 - £55,295 per annum, pro rata and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.

Informal enquiries should be made to Dr Laura Muirhead (laura.muirhead@abdn.ac.uk).

In accordance with the UKVI immigration rules, it is with regret that this role DOES NOT MEET THE SALARY REQUIREMENTS for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route.
