More information on CGEBM is available via the embedded link. CGEBM provides genomics support across the breadth of life sciences research in Aberdeen. Genomics, and in particular next generation sequencing, is revolutionising the speed and complexity of biological analyses and plays an increasingly important role in work spanning many disciplines from ecology to translational medicine to bioengineering. You will work in the CGEBM to provide expert bioinformatics provision to genomics research at the University of Aberdeen and to support our teaching, training and public engagement activities. Our work spans broad fields including ecology, nutrition, disease biology, developmental biology, immunology, novel therapeutics, agriculture, aquaculture and sustainable biofuels. You will work alongside colleagues in bioinformatics, statistics, data management and IT as well as laboratory staff to deliver outputs in our collaborative and interdisciplinary endeavours with our colleagues in biological and biomedical sciences, chemistry and engineering.
The successful candidate will have a postgraduate degree, in bioinformatics or equivalent, and experience in biological research. Strong programming skills (in a language such as Python, Perl, Java, C, or C++), a thorough knowledge of shell scripting, and experience in genomic data analysis and statistics are required. Previous experience of next generation sequencing data analysis is essential and experience of other types of high-density datasets would be advantageous.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 7 scale (£41,526 - £49,552 per annum), with placement according to qualifications and experience. This appointment will be made subject to the usual terms and conditions of employment of the University.
