Applications are sought for an exciting opportunity as Dean of the Business School. The University of Aberdeen Business School is internationally recognised for our excellence in world-leading research and disrupting conventional business models in undergraduate and postgraduate education. The School has grown substantially in the last five years, and now has 95 core academic faculty and around 2,500 student FTEs. The University is committed to supporting further growth and continually increasing the School’s scale, profile and reputation, while building on its already strong and improving league table positions. The School’s disciplines are consistently ranked highly in national league tables, for example Accountancy is ranked 2nd in the UK in the latest Guardian University Guide, with Business ranked 11th and Economics 16th. In the recently published National Student Survey Business Studies was ranked 1st in the UK.

In education, the School draws high quality students from across the globe and also delivers education internationally, with strong partnerships in China and playing a key role in the University’s partnership with AFG College in Qatar with students studying a range of the School’s degree programmes.
We are seeking a strong candidate to take responsibility for the academic leadership of the School, management of its finances and human resources and to lead the School’s strategic development and continued growth.
Candidates must possess a PhD and be able to demonstrate an academic track record of international standing with an understanding of the relevance of multidisciplinary collaboration. Previous administrative or managerial experience, particularly with regard to financial accountability and the management of teams is essential as are excellent interpersonal skills, in particular the ability to build productive working relationships with colleagues, students and other parties.
Applicants should be ambitious in their vision for growth, be able to build on excellence, further develop the School’s research culture, and be prepared to drive change within the current climate of higher education.
Salary will be at the appropriate point for academic appointment negotiated according to qualifications and experience. A responsibility payment for headship applies over and above the academic salary.

At the time an offer of appointment is made, you will be asked to demonstrate that you fulfil the criteria in respect of qualification and competency in English.
