Best Early Modern History Dissertation Prize

This is an annual award of £30 to the student with the highest mark in a history dissertation on any subject in the early modern period (where the bulk of the topic of the dissertation falls within the general period 1450-1800). The dissertation must have attained a First Class mark and the student must have, overall, earned a First Class degree.

Forbes Medal in History

The medal is awarded annually to the student graduating in Honours in History, or in an Honours group of which History forms part, who shall be held by the examiners in History to be most proficient in the compulsory History subjects prescribed for the degree, provided always that the medal shall not be awarded unless the candidate has attained the standard of First Class Honours in the History part of the examination.

Peter McCaffery Cultural History Prize

The University of Aberdeen ran an MA course in Cultural History for 25 years until 2011. The first director of Cultural History was the late Joan Pittock Wesson (d. 2012). Cultural history is now taught within the History MA. The Cultural History Prize recalls the university's pioneering role in Cultural History, and is awarded annually for the best cultural history essay or dissertation by a University of Aberdeen student. The prize is supported by the Cultural History Prize fund established in 2007.
