PS4037: PERCEPTUAL PROCESSES (2017-2018)

Course Overview

Interaction with the world around us involves perceptual processing using our three main senses: visual (seeing), auditory (hearing) and haptic (touch).  The aim of this course is to consider a range of approaches to human perception, from historical beginnings to recent innovative research.  

Topics covered include: colour perception; face recognition; perception of pain and age related changes in perception.  Students will also engage in guided debate with their peers regarding media portrayal of recent research findings.

This course is intended for students completing joint honours degrees in Behavioural Studies or Psychology.

Summative Assessments

1st Attempt: 1 90 minute written examination (75%), peer assessed debate workshop (5%) and in-course written assignment of no more than 2,000 words (20%). Resit: One 90 minute written examination (75%), in-course written assignment of no more than 2,000 words (20%), activities during tutorials (5%).

Formative Assessment

Feedback on tutorial activities and on written assignments. Example exam questions in lectures.

Feedback

Feedback on tutorial activities by the supervising tutor and peer within the group. Written feedback on written assignment within 3 weeks after assignment has been handed in.
