SP45JG: NARRATIVES OF BELONGING TWENTYFIRST CENTURY SPANISH FICTION B (2014-2015)

Last modified: 28 Jun 2018 10:27

Course Overview

In this course we will examine different novels written by new authors in twenty-first century Spain. We will focus on theme of belonging in a country whose recent history was dominated by autarky and the imposition of cultural homogeny. Spain has made a rapid transition to postmodern global society, with a similarly rapid influx of immigrants from Northern Africa and other parts. Many recent novels by the generation to come of age in a democratic Spain focus on the subject's sense of belonging (or not belonging) to specific spaces, historical contexts or communities.
