This course studies the challenges and solutions of integration of Electrical Energy generated from non-conventional Renewable Energy sources to the grid.

The challenges of connecting renewable energy to the grid and the existing solutions are discussed first in this course. A review of the Renewable Energy integration requirements proposed in the grid codes (Scottish and National grid codes) is also presented.
The converters (current source and voltage source) as the main components to integrate the Renewable Energy sources to grids are then studied. High voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission as a new technology for transmission of bulk energy over long distance is also studied. Case studies are used to enhance student knowledge and understanding.
