Course Description

This course examines the solar energy industries including resources, technologies, practical implementation, development, barriers, environmental and sustainable issues. Some case studies are investigated for solar energy projects. Students will carry out a design project to enhance their intellectual ability and transferable skills.

Concentrated solar thermal power generation

Externalities of solar energy conversion

Cost considerations of solar energy conversion

Power electronics devices for photovoltaics

Grid-connected PV systems

Isolated PV systems storage

Network integration, connection standards, codes and practice

A detailed design project of a PV energy conversion based system
