Course Description

In this course you will learn about the use of x-rays as a diagnostic imaging tool, including x-ray equipment design and use, image formation and factors affecting image quality.  We will look at the legislative requirements and guidance concerning radiation protection in the hospital setting.  Radiation doses to patients and staff will be studied as well as procedures for restricting dose to staff and patients such as shielding calculations, emergency procedures and contingency planning.  Issues associated with transporting radioactive materials will be studied.  We will also look at the use of non-ionising radiations (lasers and UV) in hospitals and the legislations and guidance in place concerning their use.
