Our PGT students have well developed critical thinking and writing skills. Team working is a skill that is highly valued by employers but on that students may have variable levels of experience of. The goal of the course is to further develop all of these skills prior to your entry into the job market. A Problem-based learning (PBL) approach is used for the course with the exact problem changing from year-to-year. Students work in groups to develop problem solving strategies and undertake the research identified as key. After the second week of the course there are no lectures, allowing students to prioritise group work and independent research.

This course aims to explore science and management issues related to the sustainable exploitation and conservation of marine resources. Successful management of these resources depends on having good understanding of the ecology of these species, as well as an ability to management issues in the broader context of society. The philosophy underlying the course is that, as a result of having completed a previous research project for their final year, students will have developed core skills that include critical thinking, writing skills, the ability to undertake intensive literature research, quantitative analysis of data sets and presentation skills. All these skills will be employed in solving a real-world problem in the sustainable management of marine resources and, working as a team, writing it up in a comprehensive final report.

Resit: similar to 1st attempt, with existing pass marks carried forward with the opportunity to resit what was failed in the first attempt.
There are no assessments for this course.
Students will receive individual and group feedback on each assessment through MyAberdeen and will receive informal, verbal feedback during practical sessions and field visits.
