The Industrial Psychology Research Centre led by Prof. Rhona Flin has conducted applied research in a wide range of areas, including healthcare (e.g., operating theatres and intensive care units), energy (e.g., oil, gas and nuclear power industries), transport (e.g., air traffic control), agriculture, general industry, and emergency services (e.g., police and fire services). In many cases this research is conducted in collaboration with an industrial partner (previous partners have included Maersk, the Civil Aviation Authority, Total, the NHS, NASA and Sodexo). The main aim of much of this research is to improve the safety, wellbeing and efficiency of people at work. Key research areas include: Non-technical skills, the impact of incivility at work, safety culture and risk management.
