Biography

Salma joined the School of Education in January 2015 as Director for the counselling, psychotherapy and experiential therapies programmes. She has experience of Project Management in developing and promoting the mental health and well being strategy for minority ethnic communities in public health for NHS Health Scotland.

Salma is qualified as an accredited psychotherapist and supervisor in the relational approach to psychotherapy and experiential therapies. Her initial training was as an  anthropologist with a keen interest in medical humanities, indigenous epistemologies. She continues to practise as a volunteer psychotherapist and supervises trainee and qualified psychotherapists and counsellors.

Current Research

  • The use of autoethnography as a research method 

  • The supervisory practice could be enhanced by being aware of the elliptical spaces between personal identity and the professional role, between supervisor and supervisee, and between both individuals and their cultural worlds.
