Biography

I am a Sociology PhD student with an interest in gender issues, specifically within the context of religion and agency. My research focuses on native Bahraini women and their agentive capacities within Islam, the influence of the Sharia on Bahraini women, the demand for women's rights that they have been pursuing over the last few decades, and the progression of the position women hold within the context of Bahraini society in general and their communities more specifically.

I have been a Teaching Assistant at The School of Social Science since September 2019, and have delivered tutorials and webinars for SO1007 Introduction to Sociology 1 and SO1509 Introduction to Sociology 2.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree from the University of Kent, where I chaired seminars at the Kent Law School and The School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research. I excelled in the “Gender, Sexuality and Law” and “Race, Religion and Law” modules, peaking my interest in gender and religion.

I obtained a Master of Science Degree from Royal Holloway, University of London, and chaired seminars at The School of Management, thus motivating me to pursue a career in academia and higher education.
