Biography

Dr Chunxia Jiang, Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Finance, is current the Head of Department of Accounting, Finance, and Real Estate, and the Programme Lead of the MSc International Business and Finance, at the Business School, University of Aberdeen.

Prior to joining Aberdeen in 2019, She was a Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at Newcastle University London, and Lecturer & Senior Lecturer in Economics at Middlesex University Business School, UK.

Chunxia holds PhD in Economics and MSc Money, Banking and Finance from Middlesex University Business School, UK. Chunxia also holds visiting positions at Bank of Finland and a number of universities in China, such as University of Chongqing, Beijing University of Technology, and Hainan University.

Chunxia’s research works have appeared in leading peer-reviewed academic journals such as the Journal of Banking & Finance, Journal of Financial Stability, International Journal of Finance & Economics, International Review of Financial Analysis, and Energy Economics. Her research works have also appeared in top economics journal in China to enhance the impact of her research. Chunxia has published a research monograph: Chinese Banking Reform - From the Pre-WTO to Financial Crisis and Beyond by Palgrave Macmillan.

Main research interests are in the areas of banking and financial markets, including bank efficiency, financial stability, credit markets, corporate finance, investment efficiency, and productivity.

Recently my research interests extend to climate risk, green finance, Fintech.

Funding and Grants

Dr. Chunxia Jiang has received a number of grants from various funding bodies. Selected examples include: 

  • March 2023, a two-year project “Bank business model (BBM) matters: The global evidence”, £10,000, British Academy, PI.
  • January 2023, a one-year project “The environmental and financial performance of green bonds: The global evidence”, £10,000, Royal Society of Edinburgh, PI.
  • August 2021, a four-year project “The high-quality development of regional economy in China under a new international backdrop: The role of FDI and financial innovation”, £80,000. National Natural Science Foundation of China. The first CI.
  • August 2019, a four-year project “The running efficiency of the banking system and economic growth in China”, in collaboration with co-author from the research unit of the China’s central bank, £60,000. National Natural Science Foundation of China. The first CI.
  • March 2015, funding of £2500 from ESRC to attend a one-week workshop in Brazil on “Innovation and economic development”.
  • August 2013, National Natural Science Foundation of China (71363014) for a four-year project (Jan 2014- Dec 2017) – "Financial stability, FDI, and bank performance in a fully opening up ear", £50,000, the first CI. We have completed and submitted final report in January 2018.
  • July 2011, a one-year project “Banking competition, efficiency, and financial stability in China”, £7500, funded by British Academy Small Grant (SG110090), PI.
