Biography
I graduated BDS from Glasgow University in 1985. Following a year as a General Duties House Officer at Birmingham Dental School I worked a further 6 months as a Senior House Officer. Thereafter I gained a year of experience in Emergency, Outpatient and Inpatient care as Resident Senior House Officer in Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontics at The George Elliot Hospital covering Coventry and Warwick Hospitals.
I returned to Scotland to join a rural General Dental Practice in Aboyne, Aberdeenshire for 3 years. During locum work in Community Dental Service in Kent and in Greenock I achieved Part 1 Primary FDS then rewarded myself with overseas experience for 1990-91 in General Dental Practice in North and South Island New Zealand.
Finally I settled into practice in Aberdeen’s West End for 20 years, latterly becoming a Vocational Dental Practice Trainer and NHS Education Scotland CPD Adviser/Tutor for North East Scotland based at Aberdeen Dental Education Centre, a post I held for 11 years.
In 2012 I became a Senior Salaried Dental Officer based at Aberdeen Dental Hospital/School/Institute and where I have had the opportunity to be Lead for Outreach; take part in a 3 year NHSG pilot MCN in Endodontics with the Hospital Restorative team and to develop with Dr Cherukara, Douglas Bean and the Department of Medical Illustration a package of 7 training videos 'Strategies for Success in Complete Dentures' for SDEO
I achieved the Faculty of General Dental Practice MFGDP in 2006 and their Diploma in Restorative Dentistry in 2018. I have been a BDA member throughout my career.
Currently I chair the Education, Training and Development Group of the NHSG MCN in Oral and Dental Health.
Outside Dentistry I am a member of a ladies running group; a book group; The Glasgow Alumni in Aberdeen Group; practise yoga daily; ski in the winter and sail the West Coast of Scotland in the summer.
