Biography
Andrea Teti is Senior Associate Editor of Middle East Critique, previously holding visiting positions at the GramsciLab (Università di Cagliari, 2018-19), the University of Ghent (Middle East & North Africa Research Group, 2018) and ACCESS Europe Visiting Fellow at the University of Amsterdam (2015-16). He was ArabTransformations Project Leader (2015-16), Trustee of the British Society for Middle East Studies (2019-22) now serving on its Committee on Academic Freedom, and is co-Founder/Co-Chair of the Critical Middle East Studies network.
His research is on EU-Middle East politics, publishing widely on democratization, Egyptian politics and political theory (e.g. Constructivism, Orientalism). His analyses are considered leading exemplars of Constructivism and of Poststructuralism in Middle East Studies, including innovative Critical Discourse Analyses of EU policy towards the Middle East (2012, 2013, 2015) and critiques of orthodox models of Democratization. His work on the Area Studies Controversy is widely cited, featuring on syllabi worldwide. He was co-editor of Informal Power in the Greater Middle East (2014) and as Arab Transformations Project Director, he oversaw the production of 21 Working Papers, 11 Policy Briefs, contributing to most of these and co-authoring two EU Briefs (Perceptions of Democracy, Development and the EU, 2014; Social Cohesion, 2016).
Recent publications include Democratization vs Democracy (2020), The Arab Uprisings in Tunisia, Egypt and Jordan (2018), work on corruption (2017), the role of youth in the Uprisings (2018) and conceptions of democracy in Arab countries (2019).
Dr Teti appeared on international media (e.g. BBC, Al-Jazeera English, France24, Canada's CBC, Australia's SBS, Deutsche Welle, Italy's RAI) and contributes to OpenDemocracy and The Conversation, featuring on Newsweek, Middle East Report, The Scotsman, To Vima, Il Manifesto, Il Fatto Quotidiano, Minima et Moralia, Lavoro Culturale, Reuters Egypt, Egypt Independent etc.

I teach various courses on IR theory and Middle East politics at both undergraduate and graduate levels. I am currently co-ordinator for Middle Eastern Politics (Honours), Global Politics from the Middle East (Honours) and teach on the core course Theories and Ideologies of Politics and International Relations.
