Pupil conference a hit as school students consider their future

School pupils from across Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire were on campus this week for a 'Business for the Next Generation' conference run by the University of Aberdeen Business School.

Around 35 sixth year students attended the all-day event at King’s College in which they took part in a range of workshops and heard inspiring presentations from staff across the Business School, Student Recruitment, Careers Service and a number of alumni.

These included Dr Trevor Morrow who spoke about Generation X and the world of work, Dr Bill Jackson on accounting, society and the environment; and Professor Keith Bender on the economics of poverty and inequality.

As well as a taste of some of the big ticket societal themes, the event included practical help and advice for those considering attending University, including an overview of the application process and words of advice on University life.

The sun shone as pupils enjoyed a campus tour and got the opportunity to network with staff, each other and potentially meeting their future classmates at University.

School’s Engagement Officer Pam Cumming said: “It is super to have school pupils back on campus for events like this. This was an event to inspire, educate and give the young people the opportunity to experience a piece of University life.

“We have a wonderful campus and it is fantastic to be able to showcase all the beautiful buildings as well as the different disciplines from within the Business School illustrating what we teach and different teaching methods.”
