Professor elected as Royal Academy of Engineering Fellow

A leading engineering professor from the University of Aberdeen has been elected as a Fellow to the Royal Academy of Engineering.

Professor Vladimir Nikora is one of 54 leading engineers from the UK and around the world to be elected as Fellows in recognition of their outstanding and continuing contributions to the profession.

Professor Nikora, who specialises in Environmental Fluid Mechanics, was recently awarded the 7th M. Selim Yalin Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) in recognition of his work.

Commenting on his latest success, he said: “I am very pleased to become a Fellow of the UK’s national academy for engineering and technology and contribute to advancing and promoting excellence and innovation in engineering for the benefit of society.

“This election to the Royal Academy of Engineering largely reflects the inspirational work of my PhD students, postdocs, and collaborators and of course strong support that I receive from the School of Engineering and the University.”

Professor Dame Ann Dowling OM DBE FREng FRS, outgoing President of the Royal Academy of Engineering, added: “Our Fellows are at the heart of all Academy activities and I am delighted to welcome these highly successful, creative and inspiring engineering leaders to the Fellowship.

“There has never been a more important time for the Academy to advance and promote excellence in engineering so that the engineering profession can continue to contribute to societal wellbeing and economic growth.”
