Helia Rahbarikorroyeh, a third year PhD student at the School of Education, will be involved with the New Scots: Refugee integration strategy 2018-2022.
Helia's PhD project investigates the experience of language learning by Syrian refugees in Aberdeenshire and compares this with the education policies providing language learning for refugees.
Helia will draw on her background in social anthropology and Middle Eastern studies and her previous work experience as a journalist, tutor and social worker in a refugee camp for the project which has been organised by the Scottish Graduate School of Social Sciences.
